The Green Bloods created plenty of opportunities in Kempsey last weekend, but the final pass went astray and they went down 2-0.
Coach Nathan Wade has made shooting practice a priority at training this week in the hope they can get off the mark against Tuncurry-Forster at Dixie Park.
“The longer you don’t score the more it builds pressure, so it would be nice to get the first one sooner than later,” he said.
“We just need to show a bit more composure in the front third because we’re creating chances, it just wasn’t our day.”
Wade said the performances of attacking midfielder Andy Collins and right winger Brendan Prince provided cause for optimism in front of goal.
“Princey made a lot of inroads down the right wing and created opportunities for the forwards,” he said.
“Andy was our players player and was strong on the ball; he just needs a bit more help from midfield.”
After one match the United coach was confident the flexibility of his squad would reap the rewards as the season progressed.
“We have the ability to move players around if we have to, but I’m not panicking yet.”
Wade isn’t reading too much into Tuncurry-Forster’s 2-1 home defeat to Taree Wildcats in round one.
“Every side lifts when they play Port United so we don’t look too much into the fact they lost last week,” he said.
First grade kicks off at 3pm with reserve grade at 1.15pm.
