The 18-year-old’s sister and father are involved in the military. 

“They told me about their stories and how they enjoyed that service,” she said. 

Kaylun marched as part of the Anzac Day parade down Horton Street on April 25. 

Kaylun said it was important for the young generation to learn about the sacrifice women and men made by going to war. 

“Everything they’ve done for us has led to what we know as society today,” she said. 

Kaylun started out as an Australian Air Force Cadet and then decided to pursue it as a career. 

She has been employed with the Royal Australian Air Force for about a year. 

Kaylun said she signed up to protect Australia and while she hopes she never has to serve overseas it is something which she is trained for. 

“If that means I have to go overseas that’s what I’ll do,” she said. 

As part of her employment she is required to source aircraft parts from different areas. 

Kaylun moved to Port Macquarie from England. She has lived in the town for seven years. 

Levi Brett is 16-years-old and has been a member of the Australian Army Cadets for over two years. 

Levi said he was proud to march on April 25. He said it was a way to give back to veterans who had made sacrifices for the country. 

“It’s a great honour and a really special atmosphere where everyone comes together,” he said.
