In a statement, a Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman confirmed that an investigation into the matter was underway.
The statement said that custodial and community officers must pass numerous screenings before being assessed as suitable for employment, including a criminal record check and a signed contact with offender declaration.
“Once employed, CSNSW staff must maintain effective personal and professional boundaries,” the spokeswoman said.
“All CSNSW staff are required to abide by a strict code of conduct and must declare any association with an inmate or offender.
“The investigation into this matter is progressing and the staff member has been suspended from duty.”
In 2015, a female staff member at the same correctional centre was suspended over an alleged relationship with convicted one-punch killer Kieran Loveridge.
