THEY have been close but not quite close enough and it is something Port Macquarie Dolphins coach Mark Champion wants to change.
The Dolphins are on the road this weekend for a double-header with Hawkesbury and Springwood as they search for an elusive first win of the season.
Champion said the performance of Josh Kelly had been one of many positives so far this season.
Kelly was regularly one of the top scorers for Port Macquarie last year.
“We’ll look to Josh to take a step up because over the last two years he has been really good for us,” Champion said.
“He missed most of the pre-season, but he’s a really talented player who has a lot to offer us.
“We haven’t seen the best of him yet.”
The Dolphins coach felt his side had the ability to test the Jets.
“They’re the opposite to us because we want to get out there and be aggressive whereas they want to slow the play down,” he said.
“You could say it’s a battle of different styles.”
