Camden Haven Dragonboat paddlers Dave and Christine Napper, Mel Hazelgrove and Jann Muller head off to Albury this week for the Australian Dragonboat Championships.

The Nappers, along with Hazelgrove, were selected for the New South Wales regional squad after a clean sweep of gold medals at the state championships earlier in the year.

Muller has the responsibility of being a boat official over the five-day regatta.

The NSW regional team is comprised of paddlers from Grafton in the north to Moruya in the far south of the state.

Hazelgrove said she was looking forward to the challenge of competing against the best dragonboaters in the country.

“It's a huge honour for the Camden Haven paddlers to be selected,” she said.

“We'll be competing in 500-metre races and 200-metre sprints in opens, mixed and women's races as well as the relay,” Hazelgrove said.

“Most racing is in the 20s standard boat, like the one our club mostly trains in on the Camden Haven River but we'll also be competing in the smaller 10s boats.”

The championships were hugely successful in Adelaide last season and Dragon Boat Victoria are excited to invite competitors to a location they had never been before.

The state vs state race day will be held on Saturday, April 22.
