Celebrating 50 years Port Macquarie Legacy is again organising the annual Legacy Golf Day at Port Macquarie Golf Club April 30.

This year is particularly important as it is the 50th time it has been run, making it the longest running charity golf event in the Hastings area.

The Legacy Golf Day, apart from Legacy Badge Week, is the biggest fundraiser that Port Macquarie Hastings Legacy has each year.

This Golf Day was originally called the Junior Legacy Golf Day and was first held in 1968 by the Junior Legacy Fund Raising Group.

This group was formed after one of our Legacy members suggested to a group of young men who regularly drank at the Don Steele bar of the local RSL Club that they could raise funds for Legacy, and they agreed, conducting raffles at the RSL Club.

So successful was this Group that in 1967 they were given formal recognition and constituted as the Junior Legacy Fundraising Group.

As their average age is late 60’s they are now more of a social club, however, they still are very active participants on the Golf Day running the food tent.

The tee-off is a shotgun start at 7am for Social Groups with a 12 noon tee-off for anyone who is a member of a Golf Club.

For the early tee-off a sausage sandwich is available from 6.30am.

A barbeque lunch of steak, sausages and salad is supplied to all golfers. With an entry fees of $30 for social golfers covering costs of the breakfast and lunch and $20 for members of Golf Clubs to cover the cost of the lunch, Legacy’s Charity Golf Day has to be the cheapest charity event in the area.

The Golf Club will provide reasonably priced refreshments on the course throughout the day. We are looking for a big rollup on the day and feel sure with the usual combination of fun and golf we will have more years of this event.

For the golfing minded it will be run as a 4 ball best ball (BBB) Stableford in conjunction with an individual Stableford event for both the AM and PM golfers. Look out for our raffle ticket sellers two weeks prior to the Golf Day and at the golf club on the day.

The event would not be possible without the generous support of the Port Macquarie Golf Club and the business houses of the Port Macquarie, Wauchope and Camden Haven areas.

Contact the Port Macquarie Hastings Legacy office on 6583 3570 if you wish to participate, make a donation toward the day or a donation to Legacy.
