This weekend is the final chance for those curious about the serial killer to see a somewhat comical take on this gruesome unsolved mystery.
Directed by Guenter Bieniasch, Jack the Ripper Monster of Whitechapel, features a talented cast, some of whose roles are pure comic invention.
Pegeen MacDougal, is a practitioner of white magic; her "familiar" Hogarth speaks only in cookbook terms; Dr. Forbes Winslow is henpecked by his fiancé suffragette Ernestine Pankhurst; and manservant Phillip Poole is determined to solve the murders in the style of his hero Sherlock Holmes.
The play assumes Jack practices black magic, requiring murderous sacrifices to assure him extra years of life.
Performances are on Friday and Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm. Tickets are $18-$30 at Players Theatre, corner Lord and Gordon Streets, Port Macquarie.
