The teenager will set his sights on Melbourne in six weeks, where he hopes to impress again.
He will do it alongside his younger brother, Tallis, who won the under-13s division at the state titles.
“I was surprised at how good everyone else was (in Sydney),” Petro said.
“They were throwing down some crazy tricks that I’ve never seen before. Personally I was really happy with my runs and how I went.
”I was hopeful of top three, because I landed everything in my runs, but I guess I wasn’t expecting second place.”
He was beaten by Angus Hughes from Wollongong, with the pair forming a friendship and continuing to learn from each other.
“The guy that won was crazy. I use to look up to him when I started and now we’re good mates, and I get to learn off him,” he said.
“For Melbourne, the ASA Aussie Titles, I just want to go higher and throw more tricks into my runs.
“I’m still self-taught, just learning from watching videos, so I’ll be practising really hard, hopefully every day between now and Melbourne, so I make sure my runs are perfect.”
