The crash happened on Saturday afternoon on Ocean Drive.
It is believe the incident occurred about two or three kilometres north of Lake Cathie.
It is understood the cyclist was a man aged in his 50s.
He is reportedly in a critical condition in the Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
The nature of his injuries are not known at this stage.
The ute, its windscreen smashed from the collision, was in the bush on the side of the road.
Police and paramedics attended the scene.
The cyclist was transported to Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
