It appears the training has paid off after the franchise won two awards at the annual Baskin Robbins awards.
The business achieved the Highest Comparison Growth and Highest Single Week Turnover Record in 2016.
The record was achieved between the period December 26, 2016 to January 1, 2017.
“We were pretty excited as we’re only a small little town and were up against places in larger cities,” Mr Farrell said.
The store was up against 88 Baskin Robbins stores across Australia.
In the week leading up to the franchise breaking the record Mr Farrell said his team could feel the ‘buzz’.
He said employees were left with bigger arm muscles after he ran ice cream scoop races to prepare them for the busy period.
Mr Farrell has labelled working in an ice cream shop as being a happy place to be.
“No one comes to an ice cream shop when they are in a bad mood,” he said.
Mr Farrell said he believes a lot of the small businesses in Port Macquarie are experiencing growth.
“I think the town is growing, we’re attracting more young families and professionals,” he said.
“There is also a lot of housing and development going on.”
Mr Farrell loves it when a new ice cream flavour is launched by the company as it means he gets to go into the store early to sample it.
His favourite flavour at the moment is the peanut butter and chocolate ice cream.
There were eight categories in total at the annual Baskin Robbins awards.
Other awards included Best Training Initiative, Local Store Marketing Initiative, Community Engagement Award, Top Performance in the Cake Category, Most Improved Store and Franchise Partner of the year.
