They will be at the Town Green Inn at 12pm on Sunday.
Riding their Harley Davidson motorbikes throughout NSW, Hog For Homeless – headlining Fittler – promote awareness of homelessness and raise money for Father Chris Riley’s Youth off the Street.
This year marks the tour’s fifth consecutive year and with more than $450,000 raised in that time there’s no arguing the initiative is an absolute success.
They have visited Port Macquarie in the past. In fact, Fittler is making a bit of a name for himself in the town, visiting at least twice a year with Hogs for the Homeless and also through his work with the NSW State of Origin emerging players squads.
“I think deep down everyone wants to help, there’s a lot of people who need it,” Fittler told Fairfax Media.
“I just feel like what we’re doing is making people aware of how they can help because a lot of people want to but don’t know how.
“We try to have a lot of fun doing it. The kids are always energetic and they get a free footy.”
Fittler believes that homelessness in society is a big issue that will only get worse.
“Men’s shelters have been closed down so people have less places to go but we don’t make gambling or drinking illegal, and drugs are easy to get hold of,” he said.
“Melbourne is trying to ban homeless people and take them out of the city. Where are they supposed to go?
“But I guess it is a case of out of sight, out of mind. The key to all our messages is just to be grateful.
“Be part of a club, whether it is footy, chess or anything, but get out and enjoy it.”
Every kid that Fittler and his fellow league legends meet gets a football, and Fittler hopes it can make a difference.
“We’re really excited to regional areas,” he said.
“A lot of people have been hit hard by the weather and the fires. If we can help out and put some smiles on the faces of kids, that would be great.”
