This gave our SRC time to get to know one another, explore their vision for the year, and make plans for events at our school. Student insights included being active in their leadership, giving service to others, and the importance of listening to fellow students. Discussion also centred on our patron saint Mary MacKillop, and how her actions and values can be embedded in the life of our school.
All agreed ‘Get Involved’ would be the vision for MacKillop students in 2017. The SRC recognised the benefits they had gained from projects, activities and events during their time at school, and wanted to encourage others to become engaged in the life of the school.
Key areas chosen to focus student involvement on were culture, social justice, sport and wellbeing. During the camp SRC members created an SRC calendar pinpointing dates and times for planned events and activities.
Andrea Huxley and Michael Kelly, who coordinated the camp, were impressed with the energy, passion and ideas shown by the leaders and predict 2017 to be a year of engagement, fun and involvement for all students.
