The festival is a celebration of the music of the world’s most popular band – The Beatles.
The Beatles music is most popular with baby boomers all around the world but also many of their children and grandchildren who grew up listening to mum and dad or nan and pop playing Beatles’ songs.
The Port Macquarie Beatles Festival is held each year during the second week of February, with the event wrapping up yesterday afternoon in scorching 40+ degree heat with some live entertainment.
There were plenty of classic cars, activities for families, market stalls and of course live music.
The breeze from the shore provided some relief, but the die-hard fans would not be deterred.
Kempsey local Meghan Turner and her family love attending the Beatles Fest and said the heat was not going to drive them away.
“It was a really enjoyable family weekend despite the heat. I noticed less people compared to last year, but nothing stops me from coming,” she said.
“It’s not just the music that adds some nostalgia to the event, but seeing all of the cars, and having activities for the kids makes it worth while.
“They even learn to appreciate the music and the old style cars, and how much hard work goes into restoring them.”
Mrs Turner has been a Beatles fan since she was a young girl, and ensures the next generation are up to date with their Beatles knowledge.
“My favourite Beatles song is actually Hey Jude. I have two kids and I often put a Beatles CDs on,” she said.
“The older they get the less they will like it I fear, but while I have control of the CD player in the car I’ll be sticking with The Beatles.”
The festival will return in 2018 bigger and better, with Port Macquarie Beatles Festival president Neil Porter hopeful of lower temperatures next time around.
