The surprise party was organised by their daughters Philippa and Virginia. The luncheon was at the Port Macquarie Golf Club last Saturday.
The event was attended by 90 guests, many of whom had travelled interstate and as far as the United Kingdom.
Members of the regional pioneering Longworth family also attended the occasion.
Peter grew up in the Wingham area and Amy (nee McKenzie) was born in Inverell.
The couple met while Peter was on a placement in Inverell for his work with the Soil Conservation Service of NSW.
The couple eventually married on Australia Day 1952.
Amy’s sister, Gweneth Brown was Amy’s bridesmaid and also escorted the happy couple to the luncheon.
Amy and Peter lived in Inverell and were active in the community through Amy’s music and drama.
They left Inverell in 1973 due to Peter’s work commitments and moved to Lane Cove and then finally retired to Port Macquarie.
