The walk departs from the Port Macquarie Museum at 22 Clarence Street, Port Macquarie and takes in various historic locations and sites in and around Port Macquarie’s CBD.
“It’s an opportunity to step back into the past and imagine what life was like when the town was first settled as a British penal establishment,” volunteer guide, Tony Dawson, said.
“We visit various locations including where Port Macquarie’s old Government House was once situated, now known as the Focus Apartments.
“Walk participants have the opportunity to view an exhibit of archaeological relics and to hear some of the stories from our convict past.
“Of course the views aren’t bad either and our coastal landscape views remain relatively unchanged,” Mr Dawson said.
“The walk takes about 90 minutes and participants are encouraged to wear sturdy walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen. At this time of year, bringing a bottle of water along is also a good idea.”
The walk costs $10 per person which includes a complimentary museum admission ticket.
Bookings are not necessary.
The Convicts, Commandants and Clergy Walking Tour, departs Port Macquarie Museum on Monday January 23 at 10am. The tour takes 90 minutes to complete.
