The $1000 donation to the fundraising kitty for a Mid-North Coast Orange Sky Laundry van came from Port Macquarie Golf Club.

Erin Denham, who spearheads the Mid-North Coast Orange Sky Laundry fundraising campaign, said she was overwhelmed by the donation.

A director at Port Macquarie Golf Club, Tony Hayward, approached the Port Macquarie-based non-profit group, Make a Difference.

The group is focused on raising $100,000 to get the mobile laundry van on the road.

Mrs Denham said they had been fundraising for six weeks and had reached the $6500-mark.

She said there was a lot on the go including monetary donations and business donations in kind.

The Mid-North Coast Orange Sky Laundry van will provide a mobile laundry service for the homeless from Taree to Kempsey.

The initiative also encourages conversation and community connections.

Mr Hayward said the $1000 donation was an opportunity for the golf club to assist the community.

“We feel we should be there to help people where we can,” he said.

Mr Hayward said in every community, for whatever reason, there were people living on the streets without access to a washing machine or a shower.

“These people, probably the most in our community at this point in time, need some assistance,” he said.

Orange Sky Laundry has 12 vans in Australia providing free mobile laundry services to the homeless.

The Mid-North Coast van would be the first in regional Australia.

People can learn more about Orange Sky Laundry during a presentation at Port City Bowling Club from 5pm on January 28.

Orange Sky Laundry co-founders Lucas Patchett and Nicholas Marchesi will be keynote speakers.

The charity’s co-founders were jointly named the 2016 Young Australians of the Year.
