Matt Tonkin and his six-year-old, Jake had just arrived at the Sister City Park on High Stret at 4.10pm on Wednesday January 11.
Jake climbed on to the swings, and Matt noticed a can of alcohol and a black box on the ground near his son. On closer inspection, the box contained needles for injecting drugs and a plastic spoon.
“It’s disgusting. I’m really disappointed. I won’t be taking my children back to that park,” said the father-of-two.
His wife, Lyndall said that needles had also been found recently in the Quarry Road and Koree Island areas.
“It’s disgusting and thoughtless. If you’re doing to do that sort of thing, do it in the privacy of your home,” she said.
Matt added that their son, Jake is autistic and will not understand why he can’t play in public parks around Wauchope.
The Sister City park commemorates the relationship between Canisteo in the USA and Wauchope, and the land was donated by the Forestry Commission of New South Wales.
