Whitebait has been by far the premier morsel from a bait perspective, while soft vibes continue to produce outstanding results for lure enthusiasts.
Whiting have been a little hit and miss at Lake Cathie, but Limeburners has been fishing well with some nice half kilo size on offer. Surface lures, yabbies or beach worms have been the go.
On the bream front, the coal wall and breakwalls are still producing a few fish, but further upstream might be better over the coming weeks, unless of course we get more significant rain.
On the mulloway front, the breakwalls are still giving up the occasional fish on either live baits or whole squid, while those throwing larger plastics up river continue to enjoy a consistent run of school sized fish.
Off the beaches, school mulloway have been terrific with both North Beach and Lighthouse producing fish to about 8 kilos.
Lighthouse has also been fishing well for whiting in the northern corner and the southern end of Lake Cathie.
Phil Clarke and Bryce Gardner also managed to land an 11.65 kilo kingfish from North Beach last weekend which is most unusual. Goes to show you never know what you may encounter when you wet a line.
Off the rocks, a few drummer and blackfish remain offer, with Crowdy and Diamond Head to the south still worth a look. Cunjevoi and prawns remain the baits of choice.
Also off the stones, some nice bream have been taken from Plomer during evening sessions, and the occasional tailor.
Despite the water temperature being somewhat inconsistent offshore, there have been some great fish on offer. Close in, snapper to about 8 kilo have been active off Plomer and Lighthouse, with both plastics and live bait seeing success.
Wider out, mahi mahi remain a viable option around the FAD, while those travelling wider still have been enjoying some terrific blue marlin action. This is great news with the 2017 Golden Lure less than a month away.
