The light easterly had been fading in and out during the morning, but once the race was underway, it stayed in nicely, even strengthening towards the end.
Tony Kuhn on Stella sailed a consistent race to finish first on yardstick ahead of Rob Barwick on Drift and Dave Winter on Spica.
With Warren ‘kilos’ Sykes away this week, the usual ‘boat to beat’ in the monohull fleet, Flembouyant with Paul Robertson at the helm, had a fill in crew of Martina Holt whose lighter weight meant Flembouyant finished an incredible 13 minutes ahead of the next monohull on yardstick.
Tony Walker in Deep Purple was that next boat, and was followed by Simon, Elsa, and Dale Gandy and Josh in Voyager who were 40 seconds ahead of Stuart and his brother Craig Symons in Big Bang.
Next Sunday is the third round of the sprint series races starting at midday.
Jack Corthals is rostered on duty.
