A sold out show at Rydges Port Macquarie on Friday night saw a crowd of 300 shimmy along with competitors as they took to the dancefloor.
Guest judges Cameron Marshall, Jane Hillsden and Paul Mercurio critiqued the performances which captured the essence of dance genres from the cha cha to disco and the jive. There was even a little Beyonce magic.
Camden Haven veterinarian Gavin Rippon channelled the spirit of Michael Jackson to take out the Judge’s Choice Award with Telstra’s Linda Bryan winning the People’s Choice after busting out her version of All The Single Ladies.
Gavin dedicated the win to his friend, the late Kate Owen, who lost a battle with cancer earlier this year.
Top fundraiser was Michelle Percival who raised a whopping $24,990 and acknowledged her own experience with the disease in highlighting the important work of the NSW Cancer Council.
Emcee and motivational speaker Michael Crossland, who defied the odds to defeat cancer as a child to become a successful businessman and elite sportsperson, summed up the event – “it’s not what you take in life, it’s what you give back”.
All money raised will be distributed by the NSW Cancer Council to financially assist Hastings families with their cancer treatment costs.
