To be held on November 29, students at the school from years one and two will be participating in a science discovery day, aimed at investigating and exploring scientific phenomena.

It will include physics, chemistry and electricity experiments such as phony-phones, underwater fireworks, silly sherbet and super static electricity.

Students from class 5/6M have planned and organised the day with various activities, experiments, as well as how to continue their love of science at home.

Teacher Karl Morris said it was a great chance to give the older students a chance to show their leadership skills and inspire the younger kids.

“It’s also great to be able to give the younger students hands on science experience,” he said.

This is the second year our class is running it and it’s the perfect environment to show off their skills and passion for science.”

Year six student and school parliament principal Alice McIntyre said she was excited to pass on her passion for science.

“Our science experiment is super static electricity, so we will be moving a soft drink can with the static electricity that we’ve made from rubbing a balloon against our head,” she said.

“It will be a lot of fun especially for the young kids because science is fun.”

Fellow science lover Alys Davies said she enjoyed the fact that there is always logic to science.

“It always makes sense and it’s very interesting. The experiments we do are really cool,” she said.

“Things like elephant toothpaste for example, which is hydrogen peroxide and dish washing liquid and stuff, makes a big explosion.”

The event will run all day with the school on the look out for parent helpers who can commit to a full day of volunteering.
