It is part of the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie Sunrise’s Tacking Point Lighthouse project.
The cottage site was cleared of weeds and exotic grasses and a large amount of fill was removed.
A compacted walkway guides visitors around the footings. Plaques show the room locations.
The cottage was built in 1879 and seven lighthouse keepers and their families lived there in the following 40 years.
Stage five also includes a feature wall formally identifying the Tacking Point headland and interpretive signs.
Project manager Neil Black said he was delighted with the outcome.
“The thing that pleases me most is the number of locals who say they are really proud to take their visitors to the Tacking Point Lighthouse,” he said.
One of the club’s goals was to restore pride in the area.
Port Macquarie MP Leslie Williams and Port Macquarie-Hastings deputy mayor Lisa Intemann officially opened the stage five work on November 7.
Stage five was realised with a $25,159 state government Community Building Partnership Program grant, an equal allocation from Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, Sunrise Rotary funding and business support.
Mrs Williams congratulated the Rotary Club on transforming such as amazing asset.
Cr Intemann said the project was a wonderful example of a partnership.
