RESIDENTS in a quiet Port Macquarie street woke with the nation’s eye on their neighbourhood on Friday morning (November 4)
A 28-year-old woman, described by many in the street as quiet, had been stabbed multiple times and left for dead.
The Port News has been told the woman is a local doctor.
A 36-year-old man, believed known by the woman, had allegedly fled the scene after the attack and was shot dead by police following a pursuit that ended in Bonville.
Children were taken to school, driving past the houses involved, which are now cordoned off with police tape and guarded by police, unaware of the sickening events that took place in their street.
An elderly resident, who did not wish to be named, told the Port News the victim kept to herself.
Our neighbourhood is pretty calm, it's nice and nothing like this has happened as far as I can remember.
- Caleb Williams
Nearby resident Caleb Williams said he knew "something big" had happened when he heard multiple sirens screaming past.
"They just kept coming one after another," he said.
Mr Williams described his shock, saying the vicious attack was "unusual" for the area.
"Our neighbourhood is pretty calm, it's nice and nothing like this has happened as far as I can remember,” he said.
There are some reports suggesting the couple met each other via the online dating app Tinder and the man was known to Queensland Police. It is believed the woman had sought out an apprehended violence order.
The highway was closed throughout the evening, but is now to traffic.
A critical incident team from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident including the discharge of a police firearm. A report will be prepared by the Coroner.
Police will address the media about the incident at 11am outside Coffs Harbour Police Station.
