The St Columba student headed to Sydney in September and jumped 1.48 metres to win the event.
It was just below her personal best jump of 1.53 metres, but still good enough to win the under-12 division.
The performance was even better when you consider she only took up high-jump a little over a year a go.
Mother, Nicole, said it was the third event she has won in Sydney and to do so with little training was an outstanding effort.
”She only got into it through the school athletics carnival,” she said.
James has received other fantastic results previously including first at Saint Columba Anglican School Athletics carnival and first at NSW CIS 12 years at Homebush.
“Unfortunately she had to pull out at nationals as we couldn't get her there but the winning jump there was 1.45 metres which she is able to do easily,” she said.
As with a lot of success, the key is determination.
“Her height probably contributes and a lot of spectators said she looked like a natural,” Nicole said.
“She also had a few private sessions before school with the sports teacher to help with her competitions.”
A lot of spectators said she looked like a natural.
