Mr Foulcher has spent this week at the school talking, teaching and tutoring students and staff on writing, sharing the understanding and enjoyment of poetry and instructing on the creative process.
A poet, playwright, educational leader, husband, father, restorer of a derelict church, David Bowie acolyte and raconteur, Mr Foulcher has led an interesting life.
Having written ten books, won six prestigious literary awards, been invited to speak at a number of international writers’ conferences he has collaborated with the best and brightest in Australian literature.
John has a depth of creative insight not often found in one person. In recent years his poetry has been studied as a part of the Higher School Certificate syllabus and he was the recipient of an Australia Council grant to live and write in Paris.
This is his third visit as “writer in residence” at St Columba. In this role he has been instrumental in “value adding” to the School’s results, particularly among those senior students who study English at the highest level.
John says that he has been happy to return to St Columba Anglican School because he has always found the school, its students and staff, to be positive in their approach to education, welcoming of his knowledge, skills and experience and respectful of the creative process.
