People are invited to join OneWave Port Macquarie, a non-profit surf community raising awareness for mental health.
The like-minded group gets together at Flynns Beach from 6am to 7am on Fridays in a gathering dubbed Fluro Friday.
Jessica Trembath from OneWave Port Macquarie said wearing fluorescent or colourful clothing raised mental health awareness.
She said the group’s mantra was it is OK to not be OK.
Fluro Friday starts with people gathered in a circle for a mental health talk.
That is followed by a surf, swim or beach yoga, and then breakfast.
Ms Trembath said the Port Macquarie group started as they thought OneWave would work really well here.
“I think it allows people to have a place where they can feel really connected and it’s OK to not be OK,” she said.
Everyone is welcome to take part.
Ms Trembath said OneWave Port Macquarie helped people make new friends.
“When you might be in a dark place it can feel pretty lonely,” she said.
“The whole idea of OneWave is coming together.
“We’ve had some wonderful friendships formed.”
Fluro Fridays have taken place at more than 50 beaches worldwide since founder Grant Trebilco kicked off the idea.
