New and existing volunteers are invited to a Disabled Surfers Association of Australia Hastings Branch volunteer sign on day at Flynns Beach from 10am on October 8.
Branch president John Brownsberger said volunteers would get an understanding of how the group operated and its goals.
“We wanted to hit the ground running this year,” he said.
“People once they volunteer, people tend to keep coming back.”
The branch has a job for everybody from meeting and greeting, to cooking, putting up the tent and helping in the water.
The volunteers enjoy being part of a team and seeing smiles on faces.
“If you are not smiling for the three hours you are here, you are doing something wrong,” Mr Brownsberger said.
“You are donating your time but you are seeing somebody get excitement and happiness out of it.”
Those rewards are instant.
The association creates opportunities for everyone, regardless of ability, to experience the thrill of catching a wave.
The season begins at Flynns Beach on October 22.
