But there is a twist to the one-off showing: it is being driven by fans via FanForce.

The highly anticipated thriller, stars Home and Away’s Dan Ewing and Dance Academy’s Tim Pocock. As well, Red Billabong is the first Australian film to feature a CGI character in a leading role.

In the Australian Outback, two brothers discover old secrets and family lies. As their friends start to go missing they fear they are being stalked by someone, or something from their worst nightmares - But is it just - A story? A legend? A hoax? Or is it real?

Writer/director Luke Sparke spent his childhood in Wauchope and Port Macquarie, attending Wauchope primary and high school before moving to the Gold Coast in 1999.

He was an actor at Timbertown theme park.

"I can’t recall a fully realized computer generated character as a ‘lead’ in an Australian film before,” he said.

“I don’t think it’s been attempted. We also used so many practical effects, daring stunts and huge sets. There’s so much in the film that isn’t in the new trailer. There is still so much to reveal when you’re watching it.”

FanForce is an online platform for fans to get the films they want into the cinema – from new independent gems to old classics – but with the marketing and strategy to build communities and fill cinemas.

Red Billabong is rated MA15+ and screens on Thursday October 13 at 7pm in Majestic Cinemas Port Macquarie.

Tickets cannot be purchased at the theatre. There are just 20 tickets remaining to be sold.
