In the estuary, bream remain reasonable with the best results near Rawdon Island on lures during the day, and bait after dark.

Flathead continue to improve with almost all areas downstream of Rawdon Island producing fish on both lures and baits. There have been some terrific fish in excess of 75 centimetres caught, with the vast majority released to breed another day.

Whiting numbers have begun to pick up in the Hastings around Blackmans Point, Settlement Point and Limeburners, and at Lake Cathie. Look for surface lures to come into their own in the coming month, but in the meantime, try scooping a few prawns from the lake after dark for bait. Live prawns, fished lightly between the bridge and Lake Cathie entrance is a deadly combination during the evening for a feed of whiting.

On the beaches, the good late season run of bream has been most welcome. Usually by this time of year they have well and truly finished, but this season just keeps going. Some solid whiting have also begun to show up, with live worms doing all the damage. For best results, look to fish shallow sand spits, particularly on a rising tide, with the smallest amount of lead given the conditions.

There is little to report locally for tailor, but south beach at Dunbogan has had a few fish. If you are looking for some mulloway action, there are still a few nice fish about, but not in the numbers evident earlier in the season.

A few tailor have shown up on the rocks for those keen to rise well before 5am. The evening sessions at high tide should produce a few bream for those willing to put in the time.

There are still a few solid groper about if you float a few crabs, but this is dependant on the seas being at a level to safely fish the more productive ledges.

Snapper remain reasonable off Plomer and Lake Cathie, while a few kingfish, teraglin and pearl perch are out wider off Plomer.
