“Tourists and locals are invited to join us in celebrating the day and to take advantage of our free museum entry” says Clive Smith, Port Macquarie Historical Society president.
“Our museum has been a popular tourist attraction for almost 60 years and we are using World Tourism Day to launch our latest improvement, free Wi-Fi access for our visitors.
“Free Wi-Fi access will enable our visitors to explore our collections and specific exhibition stories in greater detail, to add comments and share information about our collections, to access our Facebook page where we regularly post photographs from our Picture Port collection and to post their reviews and comments to Google and Trip Advisor.
“An online museum guided tour is currently under development.”
World Tourism Day is celebrated each year to foster awareness among all communities of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.
“This year’s World Tourism Day theme is Tourism for All, and by offering free museum entry and launching our free Wi-Fi access we are making it easy for everyone to explore Port Macquarie’s rich and unique history, says Port Macquarie Museum’s Debbie Sommers.
“Celebrating World Tourism Day is part of our ongoing commitment to public programs and to sharing our collections, research and stories with the wider community.”
The Port Macquarie Museum won gold in the cultural tourism category at the 2016 Legendary Pacific Coast and North Coast Destination Tourism Awards for the third consecutive year.
