Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) student Tin Wu is two and a half years into his four year degree, and was given a five week placement at the nursing home for his practical work. “It has been a great joy coming to Emmaus and seeing the care provided by the Catholic parish of St Agnes,” the 20-year-old said.

During his physiotherapy sessions with residents, Mr Wu had “quite a few conversations” about his music studies. At age five he learnt music from his mother, but really started to enjoy it in his second year at Sydney Boys High School. He played in school bands and learned piano, violin and trumpet. His interest never waned and he now plays a variety of musical styles from classical to jazz.

One of his “patients” suggested he could perform a recital for the the Emmaus residents  and after speaking with the staff, it was arranged for last Tuesday.

“I chose things they would be familiar with like Moonlight Sonata and Schuman’s Traumerei. Afterwards I talked with some of the residents and they were teary-eyed. They told me the music brought back childhood memories.”

Tin Wu has enjoyed his time here. “I have had the chance to look around Port Macquarie and its surrounds and it is beautiful. I would certainly entertain coming back and working in the area.”
