A combined effort between students and family members, support from businesses and state government funding made the obstacle course a reality.

Bunnings team member Lynley Kirkness and teacher’s aide Dean Michaels were also instrumental in the project.

The course features tyre step through obstacles, commando crawl-style obstacles, a climbing wall, swinging bars, speed hump bridge, stepping logs and a balance beam.

Student Lachlan Brown acted as a foreman on the project and pitched in with the construction.

“I think it’s wonderful,” he said about the obstacle course.

“I liked that everyone helped and had a part in it.”

Mayor Peter Besseling launched the obstacle course.

He said it was great to see everyone get involved with the project.

Sharks class teacher Jacob Nocelli said the Sharks class worked really hard to build the obstacle course.

The students spent a week on the project with the help of family members and Bunnings employees.

“It’s great to see the final product and it looks so fantastic,” Mr Nocelli said.

He said the obstacle course helped with gross motor skills and helped students to release stress and anxiety.

The Aspect School satellite class Port Macquarie learning environment is tailored to the special needs of students with autism.

Beaurepaires Wauchope and Bridgestone Tyres Port Macquarie donated tyres for the obstacle course.
