In addition, we will elect a person to the top leadership role. Three candidates are in the running for the position of mayor – Peta Pinson, Peter Besseling and Sharon Griffiths.
At the helm of any functioning and effective business, good leadership with integrity, honesty and respect at its foundation, plays a pivotal role in its success.
When choosing our next leader, think carefully. Do your research. Be informed.
The Mayoral role is not a token position. The individual charged with this job will fly the flag for our community and steer his or her councillors toward good decision-making to benefit our community now and into the future.
This leader must be a thinker and deliver.
This leader must make the community’s best interests a priority.
This leader must act ethically, with honesty and be open to respectful and productive debate.
We want a leader who is a team player and champions our community spirit.
We want our council to continue to move forward after emerging out of four years of administration.
We want the groundwork that has been set in place to continue to be built upon.
And we want a cohesive and functioning council with strong leadership at all levels of government.
Choosing our community champion should not be an easy decision, or taken lightly.
In the lead up to the election we have attempted to comprehensively introduce to you all 26 councillor candidates and our three mayoral contenders.
We have allowed them all the opportunity to have their say, attended all meet the candidate community forums and put to our potential future leaders questions some did not want to answer.
A good leader does not shy away from being challenged and possesses the fortitude to stand by their own actions and words.
The Port News will continue to challenge whoever is elected as mayor and keep them front and centre of community discussion regardless of threat or insult.
Port Macquarie-Hastings ratepayers are not interested in egos or agendas. We want action and results – because we deserve it.
Vote wisely.
