Rocky is a one-year-old kelpie black/tan cross who has travelled all the way from the Broken Hill shelter to hopefully find a family to take care of him.
This medium-sized lad will need an active family who enjoy a good walk at a brisk pace, with the inevitable stop-start as he checks every tree and pole. Kelpies are bred as working dogs, so his daily exercise routine will be a must to keep him fit, happy and healthy.
He is a little strong on a lead but with some more training, Rocky will improve as he is a member of a highly intelligent breed. Rocky will sit when he meets people and not jump up, so a bit more positive reward training won’t go astray.
If you already have a dog or dogs at home, you will need to bring them to the shelter to introduce them to Rocky to ensure they will be compatible. He will not suit a home where there is a cat or other small animal such as a rabbit, hamster or small dog breed, as he would not be able to resist the urge to chase them.
Rocky is desexed, micro-chipped, vet checked, vaccinated, flea treated, wormed, heartworm tested and will cost $300 to adopt. He is housed at the RSPCA shelter, 10 Karungi Crescent, which is open six days a week from 10am until 3.30pm and is closed on Tuesdays and public holidays. Telephone number is 6581 0380.
