Thanks to overnight rain, horse racing was cancelled for the Camden Haven Cup, but it didn’t dampen good spirits. Fashions were fine and frivolity high on Saturday at the Port Macquarie Race Club.

The Cup was run, indoors with people instead of horses and race callers Robert Dwyer, representing Cup sponsor LUSC, and mayor Peter Besseling cheered the winners home.
Racing enthusiasts put up a fee to race in the human Cup, indoors. Random number generators were used to tell the jockeys how many paces (dolly-steps) they could take towards the red carpet marking the finish line.
One lucky jockey got to wear Cr Besseling’s size 14 boots, auctioned prior to the race – giving them a distinct advantage over their competitors.
The luncheon event raised vital funds for both the Beach to Beach and Schools to Schools community pathway projects.
