According to the NSW Trustee and Guardian, 45% of Australians do not have a valid Will. Port Macquarie solicitor, David Shannon, says this is a concerning statistic as a valid Will is the only way to make sure your intentions for the distribution of your hard earned assets and personal interests can be honoured when you pass.
“Over your lifetime you work hard to build up your assets, so when you pass you want to ensure that your loved ones will be the beneficiaries.
“Without a Will, assets are distributed through a pre-determined formula and may end up in the hands of someone you did not intend to be a recipient”, says Mr Shannon.
Mr Shannon, from Searson Shannon & Co. Solicitors Pty Ltd, is one of several local solicitors who have generously volunteered their time and services to The Salvation Army’s upcoming Wills Day, which gives people the opportunity to have a simple Will professionally prepared or updated for the reduced cost of $50.
All proceeds from the Wills Day are donated directly to The Salvation Port Macquarie to support their work in the local community.
