On Sunday, Roger Griffiths and Manning Valley Concert Band hosted a Music Reading Day, inviting bands from across the Mid North Coast to participate.
Manning Valley Band members were joined by Port Macquarie Hastings Band, Club Taree Community Band and Great Lakes Concert Band.
“It was a great day for musical collaboration,” said Roger who directs Manning Valley Concert Band.
“We hope it will lead to many more events like this and to an eventual touring concert series involving all of the bands performing in Taree, Port Macquarie and Great Lakes.”
Mr Tim Stanmore from Port Hastings and Floyd Goodwin from Club Taree Band were really pleased with the event, both promising to encourage their bands to also host events in the future.
“We’d like to thank Manning Valley Concert Band and Roger for the invitation.
“It was a fantastic day, the only problem was it ended too early! I think the players would have been happy to go another hour or two,” said Tim.
Almost 40 musicians attended the event and played traditional concert band music as well as film themes, classical arrangements, marches and more.
Manning Valley Concert Band rehearses on Mondays: Youth Band: 5.15pm to 6.15pm. Senior band: 6.30pm to 8.30pm. New players are always welcome. Contact music director Roger Griffiths on 0423 466 965.
