Of much interest generally is whether further large rate rises are being planned, so the question to all the candidates is “What are your plans for ‘special variation’ rate increases in addition to the usual rate - pegged CPI increases?’.

The important related Question is “Given that rate increase consultation must be clear and unequivocal about the precise increase sought, when and how will you seek community support for any ‘special’ rate increase?”

Another question is of particular interest to people who care about pedestrian safety and the lack of attention, by Council, to the Lighthouse precinct. That question is “What will you do to provide a safe footpath on Lighthouse Road (East)?”

It is interesting that unambiguous statements on these and other critical issues are not being made. In the interests of democracy, all the candidates should now be making their positions very clear to all voters.

The road works being carried out by the developer are narrowing the road in a dangerous location just down from the local hall. I have been in touch with the council by email and phone and this exercise is like banging your head against a brick wall.  

They informed me that the road is being widened but it is at its narrowest point is 7.3 metres which the roads  department claims is 8 metres. This is by far the narrowest section of Beechwood Road.

The roads department claim they have no control over the works even though this is very likely to be the seen of a major head on collision. The council spokesman said that it is in a 50 kph zone which is unmarked so the traffic is a lot faster.

Australia Post is encouraging children across the country to write and send their letters of support to the Australian Paralympic Team as they prepare for their journey to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Letters with a $1 stamp received by the end of October 2016 with names and return addresses clearly marked on the back will receive a postcard reply from the team.
