As part of Planet Arks Schools Tree Day, students from Port Macquarie Primary and Hastings Secondary College Port Macquarie Campus worked together.
They planted 100 native littoral rainforest plants in the bushland component of the garden.
The littoral rainforest species are endemic to the area and were originally found along most of the east coast of Australia.
In restoring Mrs York's Garden, the focus is on returning this unique but endangered ecosystem to the area.
The Port Macquarie-Hastings Council contributed some plants to help on the day.
Major sponsor the Observatory Apartments donated $150 towards the plants and other tools to help get the job done.
“The Friends have been delighted to include the nearby school students in previous planting days and see this important annual event,” said Mrs Bev Carver, school teacher and co-organiser.
“It is another opportunity to engage the younger generation in doing something positive for the environment and the community.
“The hope is that these students will connect with Mrs York's Garden and ensure it flourishes in to the future.”
