In a State of Origin battle, the experienced Tumahai will be a tricky competitor for Messina.
Coach Dean Groth complimented the experienced Queenslander for her willingness to fight Messina.
“It’s a real issue for us being able to find people to fight Jess,” he said.
“So it’s a credit to April and her coach for being willing to take her on.
“We don’t know much about April, but the thing about Jess is she won’t change her style regardless of who we put in front of her.”
The bout at Wanda Surf Club will be another stepping stone for Messina on the path to the Golden Gloves in August.
“Jess has two silver medals at the Golden Gloves and she really wants to go and get that gold,” Groth said.
“This is one we don’t want to lose, but anything is possible in boxing.”
