However, for those prepared to rug up that little bit extra, the angling remain first class, even if the chill factor is definitely second class.
On the beaches there are still plenty of school mulloway about, with north beach as consistent as anywhere. The tides are terrific from tonight onwards for a late afternoon or early evening session.
If you are chasing a better quality fish, South Beach at Dunbogan may be worth the trip.
As for bream, the odd reasonable fish is about for those putting in the time, with pipis seeing the better results.
On the tailor front, Lighthouse has held a few reasonable fish. A steady supply of salmon can also be found around there. Still a few nice whiting in front of Lake Cathie with beach worms the bait of choice.
In the estuary, blackfish remain consistent, with the south wall and around Westport again producing the better results.
Flathead numbers remain solid, with Blackmans Point, Lake Cathie and the flats around Pelican Island all well worth a go.
Whitebait and soft vibes continue to achieve terrific results. In particular for bream, the lower estuaries after dark have been excellent with fish to around a kilo common.
Those fishing yabbies are also scoring some nice tarwhine in amongst the bream. For whiting enthusiasts, Lake Cathie is still producing some nice fish, predominately after dark on live worms or yabbies.
On the mulloway front, with great evening tides now upon us, the break walls will certainly be worth prospecting with either whole squid, live baits or lures.
Off the rocks, drummer remain reasonable with the better results continuing to come from around Laurieton and further south. Consistent reports of tailor are still coming from Crescent Head and areas further north, with some solid greenbacks on offer.
Crescent Head has also seen some better than average hauls of bream, with yabbies and fresh tailor fillets both working well. On the mulloway scene, Plomer and Hat Head have been giving up plenty of school-sized fish, with whole squid or worms achieving the better results. Plenty of blackfish around, too, for those keen to toss a bit of cabbage, with Shelley is again fishing well.
Offshore, some solid kingfish to around 10 kilos have been taken from around trag rock off Plomer, with live slimies achieving the better results. A few teraglin and pearl perch have also been taken from that general vicinity.
Closer in, our winter snapper season is in full swing, with some terrific reds taken on both plastics and baits. Hopefully the weekend will see reasonable conditions for those heading out.
Until next week, good fishing and tight lines to all.
