The pedestrian crossing near Dixie Park remains a black spot.
Pedestrians would cross the road at a new set of traffic lights, incorporating a signalised pedestrian crossing, at the Hastings River Drive and Aston Street intersection.
The construction work, estimated at between $2.5 million and $3 million, is unfunded.
Pensioner Hazel Fenning has lived nearby for three years.
“It’s a very dangerous crossing,” Mrs Fenning said.
“I never step out unless I see the cars have stopped, and they do usually, but now and then, you will get someone that is not paying attention.”
Mrs Fenning said traffic lights would be wonderful.
She said a lot of people used the pedestrian crossing as a link to Settlement City Shopping Centre.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council director Jeffery Sharp said the council would re-initiate discussions with Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) to replace the zebra pedestrian crossing at Dixie Park in a project which included traffic lights and a signalised pedestrian crossing.
Traffic lights are earmarked for the intersection of Aston and Hastings River Drive.
Detailed designs, which the council is finalising, represent one step in the project.
"We are now working on traffic and pedestrian movements assessments which were unable to be undertaken whilst Hastings River Drive was being upgraded,” Mr Sharp said.
“Discussions are continuing with RMS but works currently remain unfunded which is estimated between $2.5 million to $3 million," Mr Sharp said.
The original design was funded by the RMS through the active transport grant program with a total project cost of $100,000.
The project would also include improvements to the Dixie Park car park.
The Hastings River Drive upgrade did not stretch as far as the pedestrian crossing.
The upgrade improved safety and traffic flow.
