The warning follows the tragic drowning of a local teenager earlier in the day. A second teenager was listed in a stable condition in the Port Macquarie Base Hospital.
Blake Studders said he was from support operations and was asked to man the area and provide information to anyone contemplating walking around to the blowhole.
“I was there to advise people not to go around to the area,” he said.
“It is a safety precaution. A few people did turn up and want to pay their respects.”
With the coast still feeling the effects of a big swell, the trek around to the blowhole would be considered dangerous.
Monday, 12.45pm: Lifesavers, paramedics, and police were involved in the unsuccessful resuscitation of a teenager who drowned while swimming at The Blowhole, Nobby’s Beach on Monday.
It is believed the 15-year-old male was jumping into the blowhole at around 10.30am when he struck his head and lost consciousness.
Two friends who witnessed the incident grabbed a nearby angel ring and jumped into the water in a desperate effort to aid the young man.
They were able to drag him onto a rock platform where paramedics performed CPR. Unfortunately all efforts were unsuccessful.
Upon being informed of the situation by police, SLSNSW State Operations Centre tasked lifesaving personnel from several Port Macquarie clubs while the Mid North Coast Duty Officer attended the scene.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called but was not required.
A 16-year-old male is currently being treated in Port Macquarie Base Hospital after the incident.
A hospital spokesperson confirmed the 16-year-old was in a stable condition. It is believed those injuries include abrasions to his back.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
