Denton has accepted the Dying with Dignity NSW Port Macquarie Group’s invitation to visit.

He will present an evening discussion titled “why do I have to go through hell to get to heaven?”

Port Macquarie-Hastings mayor Peter Besseling has officially announced the release of tickets to the November 22 event at the Glasshouse.

He said the evening would be a great opportunity for people to listen to a very good speaker, a very passionate speaker and a very well researched speaker.

“One of the things we value in our democracy is to be able to have a mature discussion about issues of importance,” Cr Besseling said.

He said it was important to ensure we talked to each other in a sensible fashion from a basis of knowledge and education.

“The more information you can have about issues such as this, the better,” Cr Besseling said.

Dying with Dignity NSW Port Macquarie Group is staging the evening as a community education and promotion event.

Members and supporters snapped up 90 tickets during the pre-sale period.

Tickets have since been released to the general public.

Dying with Dignity NSW Port Macquarie Group convener Annie Quadroy said it was a massive coup to secure Denton to speak in Port Macquarie.

“He would have to be probably the most informed person in Australia on the debate and on the topic, given he spent eight months overseas and talking to people on both sides of the argument,” she said.

The crowd will hear Denton’s answers to the argument for an assisted dying law in Australia.

Denton will speak about his research and both sides of the argument.

People can ask questions during an interactive session.

Any profits from the event will go to Dying with Dignity NSW.
