Association president Kingsley Searle said the $5000 grant from council’s Place Making could see a fire pit and a fishing table placed in the area.

“Council will probably widen the car park to allow more parking,” he said.

“This is a special part of the north shore for residents and visitors mostly because it contains some rainforest areas. It is also of some significance to the history of Port Macquarie.

“As an association, we would welcome input from north shore residents and the wider community.

“The association members believe that the inclusion of a fire pit, in particular, will open up the area and help create more traffic to use the facilities.”

Along with increasing people movement, Mr Searle says it will also help reduce the effects of vandalism in the broader area.

The association continues to work on broaden usage options for the Coal Wharf area which is roughly bounded from Kangaroo Park through to the Coal Wharf and up to the car park at the end of the beach.

“Another option is for the sourcing of federal funding to construct a shelter on the site too,” Mr Searle added.

The association president said his other concern about the future of kangaroo park.

He said the community value of the area is enormous and hoped that council would offer the area back to the village residents.

“This area is where our community meets and we hope that council takes a similar view and offers this area back to us,” he said.
