After the brief bit of wild weather from the north east last weekend, this weekend is forecast to be much the same, if not worse, albeit from the opposite direction.

What would we give for a bit of old fashioned sublime winter weather, especially with the all the great fishing action now on offer throughout the Mid-North Coast.
In the estuary, blackfish numbers have really picked up over the last week or so with bag limit catches now a daily occurrence from the break walls and many locations in the lower reaches. Greenweed, weed flies and cabbage have all been successful.
Bream also remain terrific from the walls and Limeburners, and should improve once the current full moon begins to wane. While the bright moon may not be ideal for chasing bream, mulloway action has been consistent with some nice fish on offer. Just check out our photo of Dominic Vidot’s 26 kilogram whopper.
Those throwing live baits after dark have scored some terrific fish, while those throwing lures during the day have enjoyed good numbers of school sized fish. The break walls and towards Settlement Point have been consistent locations. Plenty of flathead still around Pelican Island with whitebait and lures both successful.
On the beaches, the terrific run of bream continues with results as good as we have seen in some years. Lighthouse and around Lake Cathie have been most consistent although all beaches are holding fish in varying degrees.
Tailor and mulloway have been reasonable, with best reports coming from around the Camden Haven area. Plenty of salmon around as well to add a bit of great sport.
Off the rocks, drummer have been sensational with most headlands now holding terrific numbers of fish. Locally, Lighthouse and Rocky’s have both been productive, with prawns and cunjevoi the baits of choice.
Bream numbers are also good at first light, while tailor remain on offer from most locations at first or last light. Quite a few nice blackfish around Shelley’s for those floating a bit of cabbage.
Little to report on the offshore front with only brief windows of opportunity to get out of late, and the forecast for this weekend again terrible. This is a real shame as rumour has it there are some terrific fish on offer, particularly on the snapper front.
Hopefully we will get a break in the weather shortly. Just a quick note for those planning a trip chasing mahi mahi, the NSW Fisheries FAD has been removed for annual winter maintenance so cross that off your plans for the next few months.
Until next week, good fishing and tight lines to all.
