Port Macquarie-Hastings Council mayor Peter Besseling, councillors and residents and community members attended the gathering.
The day included the unveiling of the playground design and painting of the basketball court.
The transformation follows a successful $50,000 grant application by the council awarded under the NSW Department of Family & Community Services - Social Housing Community Improvement Fund.
A detailed draft concept design has been developed and will be presented to local residents, and community groups who will have the opportunity to have their say on the proposed design.
The proposed design includes, scooter circuit, multi-sports hub including soccer and football, half court basketball court, dance wall, new seating and picnic tables, nature play space, stepping stones - painting by local children, and murals and footpaths.
Located next to the TAFE in Widderson Street, Oxide Park will become a hub of activity through the creation of an intergenerational play space including a scooter circuit, multi sports hub with football goals, basketball half court and dance wall, plus new bench seating and picnic tables.
The park upgrade will incorporate grassed open space areas, and the new scooter track will provide the opportunity for seniors to practice mobility scooter skills and young people with a safe circuit to learn how to ride bikes.
Council will contribute approximately $10,000 in funds for design, and to create a nature play space that will encourage all age groups to enjoy being outdoors and interacting with nature.
The ongoing maintenance and upkeep costs will also be contributed by council.
The mayor said the improvements to Oxide Park will create an attractive, revitalised recreational space that will provide an opportunity for people of all ages to get out and connect with their local community.
"Council is looking forward to working closely with local residents, the Neighbourhood Centre, Birpai Aboriginal Land Council and local schools to design and create a park that will be the pride of the community, and can be enjoyed by many generations to come," he said.
