Paulson was sent from the field in the Hastings League match between Harrington and Long Flat for abusing referee Rod Copp.
Subsequently, three charges were handed down before Friday night’s judiciary hearing – the use of offensive language, disputing an official's decision and behaving in an offensive manner.
On top of that he was charged with spitting at the official.
The judiciary handed down the life ban which covers all rugby league competitions across the country.
Hastings League president Corey Richardson said they had a zero tolerance level for abuse of officials and commended the club for their swift action.
“It’s been a tough week for everyone involved with the club, but they have started the process of de-registering the player and it’s a credit to them,” he said.
“Spitting on someone is a pretty serious offence and while it’s only a blip on the radar for the competition I believe the outcome was more than sufficient.”
He said the club deserved a big “pat on the back”.
Paulson has 48 hours from receiving the notice of his punishment to decide whether or not to appeal the ban.
Also from the same match, Aidan Ellison was sent off for dissent and received a six-week suspension.
Nathan Allan was cited for running onto the field of play off the reserve bench to get involved in a melee/fight and also received a six-week suspension.
The Harrington Rugby League Club president and vice president were contacted for comment.
