Seven days earlier the Breakers snatched defeat from the jaws of victory at Tuncurry when they conceded a 78th minute try.
History looked like repeating on Saturday afternoon when Blues second-rower Ben Ramsay crossed in the corner for his third try of the match.
It left fullback Sam Watts with a sideline conversion to steal a point which he pulled to the left-hand side of the posts.
Breakers coach Digby Murray was full of praise for his side who again dug deep after they suffered more injuries.
“We caved in a bit last week and showed a bit more grit this week,” Murray said.
“A few of the boys were busted towards the end but they kept going and it’s great to see a bit of determination to finish in front when they need to be.”
At one stage the hosts had just one fit player on the bench after injuries to Ethan Hyde, Adam Atkins and Jake Kelly.
Dan Dumas didn’t return after half-time in his first game back from injury.
“Jake got cleaned up twice by a bit of friendly fire and Dan Dumas came back after five weeks out but he feels it’s not major. He probably came back a bit early, but we have next week off which helps.
“It’s very unusual to have so many injuries in the club, but to have players step up we’ve been lucky to have five past players who weren’t going to play come back and help us out.”
First half tries to halfback Adrian Daley and lock forward Luke Sinclair saw the Breakers trail 12-10 at half-time.
The second half was only two minutes old before the Breakers were back in front after some clever lead-up work from Mike Smith.
Ricky Arnell crossed for the first of his two tries in the 47th minute before Jake Kelly left the field with a right arm injury.
The visitors put their nose back in front after tries to Ben Ramsay and Sam Watts and when Arnell scored his second it was 20-all.
Fullback Cody Robbins outpaced the Wauchope defence to put the Breakers back in front 26-20.
“If he hits the ball at pace it gives him the opportunity to do something special and that’s what we saw this afternoon,” Murray said.
When Ramsay scored in the corner to give Wauchope a chance of stealing a point there was a collective sigh of relief from the Breakers after the conversion waved away.
