The expo, which was part of the Higher School Certificate retail services assessment task, required the students to create a simulated business.
The assessment challenged students to combine both knowledge and skills into a ‘hands on’ project.
Students created a simulated retail environment and devised a business concept to demonstrate their skills in both advertising and marketing.
The students applied the display principles as they effectively merchandise the product to create a professional quality finish.
They were judged on the marketing of their concept, presentation, service and interaction with the customer at the expo at the college's multi purpose centre.
Hunky Dory was the winner on the day. That group encouraged customers to dress up in hippy costumes and have a photo taken.
Sweet Love - Wedding Planners finished second and Pimp My Party nabbed third place.
A service encouragement award went to Sugar Cube, while Zingara took home a merchandising encouragement prize.
Ex Newman student Mitch Bulley was part of the judging panel.
Dragonfly Marketing's Jane Hillsdon, Necia Waghorn from Marketplace Events and semi-retired retail teacher Jess Tarrant-Clarke were also judges.
Mitch said top customer service was the key to success.
"Having a good looking stand is one thing, however it's the student interaction with the client that really gets the judges' attention," he said.
Retail services teacher Nicole Prior was pleased with the results.
"All the year 12 retail students have been enthusiastic in preparing for this event and are to be commended for their commitment, energy and innovative ideas," Ms Prior said.
Meanwhile in school news, Newman Senior Technical College has welcomed the addition of "Bill" the skeleton into the Human Services classroom. Bill was purchased with funds kindly donated by John Laurie.
